Abstract:
<summary>The purpose of the study was to provide a statement in advance of any development regarding the palaeoenvironmental stratigraphic sequence at the site, and at the same time to give an indication of the area's archaeological potential. It considered previous bore hole data and evaluations and examined the excavation of test-pits. Occupation within the development area probably would have been sporadic and specialised in nature - for example, industrial activities, possibly including salt-panning, may have been undertaken. There has been significant occupation around the marshes since at least the Roman period, and so two types of site may be present: large occupation sites restricted to the higher ground and smaller sites for industrial purposes within the area of the marsh dating from the late Prehistoric to the Post-Medieval periods. Bore hole and test-pit stratigraphic data indicate a well-preserved sequence of Late Pleistocene and Holocene sediments, as well as well-preserved palaeoenvironmental organic sequences and a palaeolandsurface which may preserve {italon}in situ{italoff} archaeology. {italon}AIP{italoff}
