Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on groundworks relating to the conversion of two post-medieval barns and associated groundworks. The groundworks revealed the brick plinths of barns 1 and 2. The bricks included frogged types, dating to the late 18th and 19th century. A single flint course observed at the southern end of barn 1 may have represented a remnant of the original plinth. A single medieval pottery sherd, together with fragments of animal bone, were recovered from a buried soil which was likely to have been a ploughsoil with finds contained therein resulting from manuring. An undated chalk floor was revealed in barn 1. A cross beam was cared with numerous carpenters marks and with the initials PH 1795. [Au(adp)] |
