Abstract:
During the course of the watching brief, the site was considered to be of potential archaeological significance, particularly in relation to Worcester's medieval city wall. The watching brief succeeded in locating the city wall and a range of evidence bearing upon the periods of its use and disuse. The wall was of similar construction to that elsewhere along its circuit, but the remains had an added interest by being cut through in the 17th or 18th century by a brick lined and stone capped drain. Further evidence for post-medieval activity was recovered in the form of a small quantity of artefacts, which in combination with the observed stratigraphy appeared to date the final disuse of the city wall at this point to the 19th century.
