Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed a sequence of natural, Late Iron Age and Romano-British deposits. Undated former stream channels were recorded criss-crossing most of the area investigated. Artefacts recovered from several of these natural channels indicated that some of them were active during the late prehistoric or Romano-British periods. Several small gullies and pits containing pottery dateable to the Late Iron Age and Romano-British periods were identified. A fragmented pottery vessel of late prehistoric date and containing burnt animal bone was also recovered. A small amount of briquetage was also recovered. It was probable that the material derived from a Romano-British saltern, as yet undiscovered, in the near vicinity of the proposed development. [Au(adp)] |
