Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, comprising a field visit, geophysical survey and targeted trial trenching was undertaken in advance of the proposed construction of a new Primary School, hard standing and playing fields on the site. No significant archaeological features were identified during the field visit. The southern area of the site was covered in rough grass, which indicated the area where housing and gardens had been demolished in the recent past. A slight slope running east-west across the site at the northern end may have indicated that modern landscaping had taken place. The geophysical survey revealed several linear anomalies and a spread of near-surface ferrous litter. Trial trenching indicated that the anomalies were recent in origin, and revealed no significant archaeological deposits. There was no recommendation for further archaeological works on the site in relation to the development. [Au(abr)] |
