Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a residential development identified that two assemblages of prehistoric flints and several Palaeolithic flakes had been found in the surrounding area, and that a Bronze Age barrow had been recorded a short distance to the south of the site. A small number of Roman artefacts had been found, and a Roman cremation cemetery lay immediately to the west. A medieval moat lay to the south, and a 17th century barn lay at the south-east corner of the site itself. Cartographic evidence indicated that no further development had taken place at the site since construction of the farm within this corner. It was noted that the present day use of the site as grazing for horses would have had no impact on any potential archaeological remains. It was concluded that the site had a high archaeological potential. [AIP] |
