Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed clay extraction site. Prehistoric flint scatters and two Early Iron Age sites had been identified in the surrounding area, whilst evidence of Roman salt-production and animal rearing had been found to the north-east. A number of cropmarks had been observed on aerial photographs of the site. During the evaluation, a series of probable field boundary ditches were revealed; the proximity of Roman sites implied a Roman date for these. Three pieces of struck flint and a small amount of Roman and possible medieval pottery were recovered. A watching brief and a combination of phosphate and magnetic susceptibility analysis were recommended. [AIP] |
