Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken of the site and its immediate vicinity prior to proposed development. The site was located in a Priority Archaeological Area as defined by the Local Planning Authority. The assessment determined that the site potentially could reveal archaeological deposits from the prehistoric to the post-medieval. Human remains may possibly be present along the sites boundary with a churchyard. The footings and services of the previous buildings on the site were likely to have had a severe but localised impact on any underlying archaeological deposits. Whilst it was unlikely that any archaeological remains had survived under ICL House itself, beneath the open space around the building preservation of such remains were likely to be good. The report recommended further archaeological evaluation. [AIP] |
