Abstract: |
The evaluation was carried out in advance of a new development. Five Roman kilns had been found on the site since 1864 on the site of the brewery, itself a Grade II Listed Building. Trenches at the site recorded 19th and 20th century disturbance, including quarry pits associated with the building of the brewery. The site had been extensively levelled, which may account for the lack of kiln features. Finds of Roman pottery were abundant. [Au(abr)] |
