Abstract: |
The assessment indicated that the study area contained the sites of seven, possibly eight, medieval tenement plots. These extended from the west side of Redcliff Street to the River Avon and were extended westward over several centuries through reclamation of land from the river in a pattern familiar from archaeological excavations in the area. In the 17th century a sugar refinery was built at No.98 Redcliff Street which continued to operate into the 18th century. In the 1790s a group of small dwellings was created behind No. 100 Redcliff Street in an alley known as Golden Lion Passage. [Au(adp)] |
