Abstract:		 Archaeological observations and recording were carried out during the construction of a new church hall. The remains of the clay and chalk rubble of the counterscarp bank of the Roman town defences were observed in the western half of the site. The bank survived up to 1m high and was approximately 21m wide. It appeared to run across the whole width of the site. A small part of the outer ditch of the town defences was observed to the south of the church. The evidence from this watching brief suggested that the western approach road to Durnovaria did not cross the site. [Au(adp)]
