Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a drainage trench across part of the moated island at Sinai Park, within the area of a SAM. No medieval features of archaeological interest were encountered in any part of the trench, and it was concluded that any buildings pre-dating the present house had not been located on this part of the island. It was noted that a felling date obtained as a result of tree-ring dating of roof timbers from the south range of the house coincided with a date on building accounts for the reconstruction of an un-named building in the area. The work specified in the document, which dated from 1572-3, had been carried out for Lord Paget, whose family had owned Sinai Park at the time. It was suggested that the document had related to Sinai Park. [Au(adp)] |
