Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of the proposed demolition of two existing dwellings and the construction of a block of flats. The assessment established that the development site was located within an area of high potential for Palaeolithic remains. On the basis of the evidence considered, the site had low/no potential for archaeological remains of any other period. It was away from the historic core of Ealing and was therefore unlikely to contain Saxon or medieval remains. In the post-medieval period the site was in agricultural fields until the late 19th century at which point the existing buildings were constructed. Although the site was in an area of high potential for Palaeolithic remains, these were likely to occur below the levels to which the strip foundations of the proposed buildings would be excavated. It was unlikely that remains of any other period were present and therefore the proposed development would have no archaeological impact. Therefore, it was considered that any further archaeological investigations were not necessary. [Au(adp)] |
