Abstract: |
<summary>Geological faulting in the magnesian limestone and mining activities in the underlying coal measures had caused serious subsidence at Bolsover parish church. Archaeological investigations were undertaken within the church tower, in advance of underpinning work to stabilise the structure. During the excavation a total of 70 burials were excavated and earlier foundations believed to be part of a Norman nave discovered. Within the tower, a large 13th century bell-founding pit with associated bell-mould fragments was excavated. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
