Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during two phases of groundworks for service trenches and a new sports building. Although no archaeological features or deposits were encountered during the works, evidence for earlier buildings in the complex in the form of ragstone walls, dated to the early 19th century. These appeared to have then been heavily altered during the mid-late 19th century with the addition of new accommodation wings with quarry tile floored wash rooms. These appeared to have survived until their replacement, in the third quarter of the 20th century, with the present mainly brick and concrete structures. [Au(adp)] |
