Abstract: |
<summary>Desk-based assessment supported by preliminary field survey was undertaken of an area of mine workings proposed for shaft-capping and reclamation works. The workings in the assessment area were worked from the 1820s, initially for copper and later for tin. The remains on the site, a number of which had Scheduled Ancient Monument or Listed Building status, comprised two main groups: those around Marriott's Shaft, representing a complete example of a late-period shaft-head infrastructure; and those around Pascoe's Shaft to the west. Four shafts - which had been capped, covered or choked - were identified within the study area. The associated mine dumps had been removed from the site. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
