Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken prior to proposed development. The area was adjacent to the former Blackburn Union Workhouse, opened in 164, which later became part of the hospital. Although a Roman road ran close by to the west of the development area, no significant archaeological remains were likely to have existed that pre-dated the late 18th or early 19th century. The proposed development may affect now demolished parted of the former workhouse and a former farm, and would impact upon Whinny Field Farm, an extant structure, which was first recorded on the OS 1st edition map of 1849.
