Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a housing development. Evidence of medieval occupation had previously been recorded at two locations within the village of Butleigh, and evidence for a 17th century clay pipe factory had been identified. The proposal site had been in use as a garden from the mid-19th century onwards. During the evaluation, late 18th/early 19th century artefacts were recovered, but no evidence for occupation of the site prior to the 19th century was revealed. It was concluded that medieval and earlier settlement was likely to have been concentrated elsewhere, around the areas of the High Street and the parish church. [AIP] |
