Abstract: |
The surprisingly high level at which articulated skeletons were found pointed to a significant truncation of the burial ground. This was also suggested by the topography of the immediate area, where ground level fell markedly towards the Cathedral from the path. The recovery of post 1770 pottery suggested the use of the area as a burial ground into the late 18th or early 19th century. Evidence of the Treasurer's House which was known to have occupied the site from at least the 13th century until the early 19th century was not found. A metalled floor surface was probably related to the late use of the building. [Au(abr)] |
