Abstract: |
Archaeological recording work was undertaken during the excavation of two pipe trenches and a soakaway and during the lifting of the south aisle floor for repair works. It was established that the west tower and buttresses and the chancel and chancel buttresses were of the same build. It was also noted that the plinth of the west tower had been repaired during the post-medieval period, which indicated that at some point it had been exposed but not rendered or repointed along with the church walls. A modern pipe trench had probably disturbed the relationship of the foundations to the natural stratigraphy around the south-eastern chancel buttress, and this may have extended at least part of the way around the church.
