Abstract: |
The site formed the northern edge of New Gunwharf, built between 1797 and 1810. The watching brief recorded a large number of features associated with the development of Gunwharf and the defence of the area. Part of the Sea Line Wall, built in the 1600s was revealed, as well as part of the moat. The Mill redoubt and King's Mill were recorded, as well as the 19th century quay wall. A slipway for small boats was evident. On New Gunwharf storage buildings had been built, as well as large machinery associated with naval ordnance. All pre-20th century buildings were removed by the end of the Second World War. [Au(abr] |
