Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that part of it may have lain within the area of a Dominican friary, and that it may have been crossed by the friary's medieval boundary wall. The greater part of the site was recorded on historical maps as meadow. In the surrounding area, recorded sites included a 19th century warehouse and a medieval deerpark. The development site had previously been occupied by a sports centre; deep excavations for swimming pools had occurred in some areas. It was concluded that the site had archaeological potential, and that an evaluation of undisturbed areas should be carried out. [AIP] |
