Abstract: |
The excavation of the churchyard recorded 857 human burials, mainly of the 18th and 19th centuries. The majority were in simple wooden coffins in earth cut graves. Thirty five brick lined graves and vaults were recorded. The brick lined graves usually contained two burials one on top of the other. The vaults were square or rectangular in plan and contained up to 12 burials. Vault 10 consisted of four chambers, linked by a corridor. The foundations of the post-medieval church and medieval church were also recorded. [Au(abr)] |
