Abstract: |
An assessment trench was excavated by machine to establish the presence or absence of archaeological deposits along the southern edge of a field to the north-east of the churchyard. The eastern edge of the field was formed by the River Parrett. The work was carried out as part of flood protection works. The absence of any sherds of medieval or later pottery could have suggested the relative antiquity of the deposits, being perhaps late Saxon or very early medieval. A recovered animal bone was sent for radiocarbon dating and was early medieval in date. [Au(adp)] |
