Abstract: |
A field-walking exercise was carried out at the proposed site of an access road to a development site. A Roman coin hoard had been found in the area, probably within the field itself, and ridge and furrow had been observed on aerial photographs of the site. During the fieldwalk, undatable ceramic building material and a spread of modern slate and brick were observed. The latter may have indicated the former location of a building, or the backfill of a feature such as a pond or ditch which may have been spread by ploughing. It was concluded that the lack of evidence observed was not a definite indicator of an absence of archaeological remains within the field. [AIP] |
