Abstract: |
Several phases of development within the site were archaeologically monitored. To the south and west of the present priory building a number of wall foundations were revealed. Walls identified to the north of the present building were somewhat wider than those to the south and west, and were well faced, suggesting that they may have been related to a separate building phase. A small amount of disarticulated human bone was recovered from the deposits sealing the wall foundations. It was probable that this originated from a burial area, possibly relating to a documented priory hospital, in the vicinity of the present building and was disturbed in later periods of activity.
