Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundations for the rebuilding of an Inigo Jones gateway, after the discovery of human remains within the backfill of St Paul's church vaults. Three sondages were investigated, and the disarticulated remains of 6-12 individuals were revealed. Post-medieval pottery was also found. It was concluded that the skeletal remains were from a period of churchyard levelling, the material from which was used to infill the vaults and was sealed by debris associated with the rebuilding of the gateways in 1788. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
