Abstract: |
A gas main trench along Victoria Street was kept to the western side of the road to avoid an area which, although part of the carriageway, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument (this is because the city ditch, following the outside of the wall, is now buried underneath the road). The western part of the dual carriageway represents the original line of Victoria Street and, not surprisingly, the trench cut through areas that had already been disturbed by the large amount of earlier services that had followed that street.[AIP] |
