Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of a trench for the connection of a close circuit television camera to the local electrical supply. The area excavated was 4m in length and 0.5m wide. No significant archaeological deposits were identified. The occurrence of natural sand just below the modern surface in part of the trench was however, significant, as it implied that archaeological features cutting through the sand could survive at this level. The report concluded that, given the identification of archaeological deposits in the Palace Green area on previous occasions, future disturbance of deposits should be avoided or subject to a scheme of archaeological works in agreement with the planning authorities.
