Abstract: |
The relining work effectively involved the replacement of the whole of the channel. Consequently many surviving earlier features were either destroyed or covered by the course lining. In general the main features destroyed were those which were beneath the water line. In particular areas of minor revetments, the ground plug near Follyfoot, and all the transition walls were removed. However, by taking the opportunity to record the changes caused by the renovation work, it has helped to ensure that a fuller understanding of the historical development of the canal through its archaeological remains.[Au(abr)] |
