Abstract: |
Trenches located in a field immediately to the north of the hospital revealed the presence of an extensive post-medieval ploughsoil layer that sealed ditched and trackways of probable medieval date. these features were thought to represent a complex sequence of field systems and enclosure boundaries on the periphery of the medieval town of Aylesham. At least two pits excavated towards the northern end of this field contained burnt material that may be indicative of nearby medieval occupation. Within the ground of St. Michaels Hospital evaluation trenching revealed that much of the archaeological evidence have been removed or obscured by modern services. [Au(abr)] |
