Abstract: |
The site at Vicarage Lane was proposed for residential redevelopment. The site had a good archaeological potential for the Pleistocene/Palaeolithic and a generally low archaeological potential for all other periods of human activity. However, it was not possible to predict if Pleistocene/Palaeolithic remains would actually be present. The site was undeveloped until the mid 20th century but was formerly crossed by a late Victorian railway cutting. Past post depositional impacts on any archaeological deposits would have been very severe. It was considered likely that most archaeological deposits post dating the Pleistocene brickearth would have already been removed. The proposed development was unlikely to have a significant impact on any archaeological deposits within the Pleistocene sequence, either by the cutting of footings, or of services. On the basis of all the available evidence the report did not recommend the implementation of any further archaeological mitigation measures, in this particular instance. [Au(abr)] |
