Abstract:
The excavation produced evidence for activity on the site originating in the early-mid Neolithic period with phases of re-use within the later Bronze Age/Early Iron Age and early Saxon periods. Neolithic occupation on the site was attested to by the presence of numerous pits, post holes, gullies, pottery and an assemblage of worked flint. Provisionally, it appeared that a number of features dated to the later Bronze Age-Early Iron Age, although a small number of features may have been of Early-Mid Iron Age date. These included pits and post holes. Re-use of the site during the early Saxon period was suggested by three sunken featured buildings and associated post holes, pits, other post holes, a gully, a ditch and two possible enclosures. The site appeared to have been abandoned sometime in the 6th/7th century. [Au(adp)]
