Abstract: |
The excavations found that eleventh to fourteenth century deposits did survive, although heavily truncated by later archaeology. The city ditch was located and excavated; it was found to be 4m deep, with earliest deposits being dated to the fifteenth century. Contemporary industrial activity in the form of bone working was also found along the edge of the ditch. Evidence of the seventeen and eighteenth century buildings visible on the historic maps and mentioned in the documentary sources was uncovered, along with the foundations of a nineteenth century building, thought to be the warping and winding factory known to have been on the site at the time.
