Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to proposed development. The area included a cropmark site which might have been an important prehistoric living site or burial mound. No above-ground traces of the site had survived because the area had been intensively ploughed for some centuries. The report demonstrated that there was a wide range of archaeological material in the area, including a Roman road, a Saxon and medieval church site. A number of cropmarks are thought to date to the Iron Age and Roman periods and some possibly reflect manufacturing sites of the medieval and later brick and tile industry. Some loose prehistoric, Saxon and medieval finds were also identified. [Au(adp)] |
