Abstract: |
Planning permission had been granted for the construction on the site. A condition of the planning permission required a programme of archaeological investigation of which the assessment formed part. The site lay 50 metres from an archaeological feature of national importance, St John's Gate, a gatehouse of the priory of St John of Jerusalem, an SAM. There were a number of known or suspected archaeological features within the proposed development area, and archaeological remains may have been expected. Further evaluation was recommended. [AIP] |
