Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a new industrial building was undertaken. Prehistoric remains recorded in the surrounding area included two Palaeolithic handaxes, a Mesolithic pit, Neolithic implements and a hut with possible Iron Age pottery. Roman kiln refuse and evidence of a prolific medieval tile industry had also been found. It was noted that repeated development and associated industrial activity at the proposal site had probably removed any archaeological deposits. A watching brief during groundworks was recommended.
