Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of the proposed site of a motorway service station was undertaken. A 16th century Grade II Listed farmhouse and barn with a possible medieval moat lay nearby. A circular mound, a cropmark representing an enclosure and a second possible moat had been recorded in the area. During a survey of the site, a parish boundary and a bank of uncertain function were observed. Scoop-shaped features interpreted as borrow pits and a 19th century or earlier banked and ditched trackway were also noted. It was concluded that the area was generally poor in archaeological and historical remains. [AIP] |
