Abstract:		 A historic study of the site was undertaken in order to assist with further management of the estate. Both the main houses had been almost completely demolished although the ornamental farm and buildings associated with the walled garden survived along with some of Staunton's follies and memorials. Several owners had substantially altered the landscape during the 19th century. Many of the surviving monuments and gardens were in a ruinous state. [Au(adp)]
