Abstract: |
Trial trenching undertaken on the site of a proposed prison confirmed the results of a previous desk top study that significant remains survived within the plot. These indicated continuous occupation or activity from the 13th century to the present century. A very small quantity of probable Roman and earlier material was found which may indicate Roman or prehistoric activity or settlement. A programme of further investigation was recommended.
