Abstract: |
A total of 15 trenches were excavated across the site in order to determine the nature of potential archaeological features revealed during earlier geophysical surveys. A series of archaeological features were encountered across the site, in most cases these matched or were in close proximity to, features identified in the geophysical survey. Struck flint fragments were recovered from two ditches in Trench 7, and Iron Age material dating from the 1st century AD was found in features in Trenches 9 and 11. In Trench 7, a series of pits visible on the geophysical survey were shown to be post-medieval. No further dating material was recovered from excavated features associated with geophysical anomalies, although a single struck flint flake was recovered from Trench 3, from a linear feature not identified by the geophysical survey.
