Abstract: |
A monitoring visit was undertaken prior to the construction of a bungalow, at a site which lay at the centre of the medieval settlement of Aston. The roadway to the bungalow had been stripped without prior notification, and had been backfilled with hardcore with no archaeological observation. However, the site of the bungalow itself was observed following the stripping of topsoil. It was noted that the topsoil had not been removed very cleanly, and that any negative archaeological features would have been difficult to observe. One small rim sherd of glazed medieval pottery was recovered, and a concentration of pebbles was observed. It was not possible to establish whether or not this concentration had formed an archaeological feature. [AIP] |
