Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to proposed residential redevelopment. As far as could be ascertained, the site had a low archaeological potential for prehistoric and Roman periods and a moderate to high archaeological potential for the mid-Saxon period. Remains associated with the immediate agricultural hinterland of the mid-Saxon trading centre of Lundenwic may be present and archaeoenvironmental evidence for this period was also possible. The site had a low archaeological potential for the late and post-medieval periods, the latter mainly because of a number of post-depositional impacts, such as basementing, which would have had a severe impact on any underlying archaeological deposits. The archaeological potential of the site was probably further limited due to truncated features of the Anglo-Saxon early-medieval period cut into truncated brickearth. [Au(adp)] |
