Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out and monitored groundwork at a development site encompassing 30-34 Gallowgate and the south part of the car park east of Strawberry Lane. Previously a desk-based assessment and building survey was carried out on the site. At first during the watching brief, no archaeological observations were made, but then brick and concrete structures and one underlying stone wall were recorded along the south and west edges of the site, possibly brick walls and cellar vaults of the Corporation baths and wash houses which were known to have occupied the site. The underlying stone wall may have belonged to an earlier post-medieval building. [Au(adp)] |
