Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of the residential redevelopment of the site. Three trenches were dug, each c.10m by 2m. The two trenches in the centre and to the north end of the site showed natural layers overlain by 19th and 20th century deposits and structures. The third trench at the south end of the site, nearest to Upper Tooting Road, contained a series of nine features of medieval date cut into the natural. These were mostly, if not all, small to large pits, but possibly with one or more linear features. Two ditches in this trench were of 18th century date and more that one of these was a wall of 18th or 19th century date. Other structures and deposits identified were of 19th and 20th century date.
