Abstract: |
The archaeological desk-based assessment in advance of the proposed development, revealed that the site was located in an area of uncertain archaeological potential. The Northamptonshire SMR showed that an area of allotments existed within the study area through to the 20th century. The surrounding area contained other sites of more recent nature, as well as a series of cropmarks, possibly dating to the prehistoric, representing settlement and field systems. Previous fieldwalking along the route of the A14, across the northern part of the study area, had not revealed any finds, although an undated hollow was recorded. However, the absence of known significant archaeological remains within the proposed site, may simply have reflected the lack of previous fieldwork. [Au(abr)] |
