Abstract:
An evaluation was carried out at two sites within an area affected by proposals for a bypass. Geophysical survey had indicated possible ditches and pits at Site A, and possible pits at Site B. During the evaluation, evidence of an Iron Age enclosure with ditches, pits, gullies, a burial and two possible roundhouses was revealed at Site A. Iron Age pottery, butchered animal bone and daub were recovered. A small amount of unstratified Roman pottery, furrows relating to medieval ridge and furrow and later land drains were also recorded. At Site B, no archaeological deposits were revealed, although one sherd of Roman pottery was recovered. [AIP]
