Abstract:
An assessment of two areas of land, located in the parishes of Killamarsh and Barlborough in north-east Derbyshire with a part in Harthill and Woodall, South Yorkshire. Surface features were located in the west part of the site where documentary evidence had suggested the posssibility of features relating to medieval and post-medieval agricultural and industrial activities. In the east part of the site features relating to a medieval hunting park boundary along Park Brook survivied. In addition, surface indications of 'rig and furrow' ploughing of probable 19th century date, were identified. It was also noted that whilst areas of documented early coal-mining were either outside the actual review area, or had already been open-cast, there remained a potential for the recovery of undocumented medieval and early post-medieval mining remains in undisturbed areas.
