Abstract: |
<summary>An evaluation was carried out prior to the construction of a tennis court. The site was thought to have been on or near the Cluniac priory precinct boundary or even the monastic cemetery. One trench was excavated. The topsoil was disturbed due to the root action of a 19th century orchard. A few sherds of post-medieval pottery were recovered. Below the topsoil lay a colluvium deposit, which in turn overlay alluvial deposits. No archaeological features were noted. The site appears to have been terraced in the late Post-Medieval period, and an orchard planted in the 19th century. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
