Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the site was undertaken prior to determination of planning permission for the carrying out of structural alterations on the building. The greatest archaeological potential was for significant Middle Saxon remains to be present on site, as the general area, on the periphery of Saxon Lundenwic, seemed to have been used for the quarrying of brickearth and gravel. Medieval and post-medieval deposits and features were also likely to be present, although probably largely truncated by post-medieval cellaring. The report recommended further archaeological evaluation. [Au(abr)] |
